Drupal has this REALLY cool feature called Multisites. It allows you to use one installation of Drupal and manage as many sites as you want (or at least as many sites as your computing resources can handle).

Session focus

This session will provide information related to the topic of leveraging multisites to the fullest extent known (at least by the speaker). With a focus on topics associated to using CVS & SVN (code management) for deployment, performance optimization (tuning for multisites), a flexible implementation architecture and having fun with new-site rapid deployment, expect to enjoy a multisite wild ride.

Session assumptions about you, and what you know (or don’t yet)

  1. Not afraid of the command line
  2. At least a bit comfortable with CVS/SVN
  3. Willingness to look at code
  4. Not squeamish about httpd.conf (and know what it is)
  5. Want to run more than one Drupal site on the same server

Speaker background

My name is Matt Petrowsky and I’ve been using Drupal for close to 5 years. I’ve been using the Multisite features for 2 of those 5. I’ve been a developer of Drupal modules (just a few) since 2005 (most all modules were private), but I’ve recently been releasing modules on Drupal.org. I’m currently providing free Drupal learning content on the site GotDrupal.com.

Thanks for Sharing....

I remember enjoying the information and what you shared and thinking “this is so cool”. What I don’t remember is specifically what the symbolic link structure was and I wasn’t clear about how you implemented the single set of users across all sites.

My hope was to look at the videos that was made of the talk and through a couple of reviews, figure it out. Alas, it appears that your video was eaten by the cookie monster.

Since you have this cools site with video clips, perhaps you could create and point us to the video of multi-site drupal. :-)
