Are you responsible for maintaining a Drupal-based site and still confused about how to edit your site’s content and do daily administration?

If you are a site administrator trying to use the CMS, maintain or update your content, and grapple with the nitpicky details of daily updates/management, this is a session for you!

The exact outline of this session will be flexible based on the needs of those who attend.

Basics to cover will include:

  • Finding and editing nodes (pages, other content)
  • Managing users
  • Working with “taxonomy” and “tags”
  • Checking status reports to find out about security updates
  • A couple useful modules like Admin Menu and Backup and Migrate (see the two session proposals below for more detailed sessions on these tools:
    • Must Have Modules for Your Drupal Site
    • The Basics of Migrating a Site from Stage or Desktop to Live
  • Path, Pathauto and setting up URLs
  • Changing authoring information, post date/time, and publishing options
  • Using revision settings and the diff module for version control
  • Site Admin simple SEO tactics/tools

If you pick this session, please use the “comment” feature to let me know a little about your specific challenges with site administration. Every administrator has unique needs!

Evaluating Drupal for corporate portfolio of websites

Submitted by Samirk on Sun, 2009-08-09 01:14.

We are considering Drupal as an alternative to our current CMS (RedDot) for our corporate portfolio of upwards of 50 sites. I would just like to get a feel for how easy/difficult Drupal is to maintain/administer if we decide to migrate.

My incipient blog, aimed at unifying as much CMS-related information as I can, is at http://samirkoncms.wordpress.com/ As we evaluate Drupal and other alternatives, I will be posting some (sometimes) basic questions there, hoping to find answers from (and for) people in similar situations.

Very new to Drupal. I am a marketing/office/project coordinator for a Drupal theming company who suggested this session for me. I assume basic site maintenance and administration is what I need to learn!

…and am just learning. I’d like to start out with a decent understanding of administrative and maintenance-related tasks.

drupal 5 or 6?

Submitted by rainbreaw on Mon, 2009-07-20 10:18.

Do you know if your site is Drupal 5 or Drupal 6? (Or earlier…) The basic concepts will be very similar, but it’ll obviously be helpful to know. Thanks!

I’m taking over a website

Submitted by mandugi on Sun, 2009-07-19 17:21.

I’m taking over a website that has already been built by Drupal by somebody else. I’ve found administration with Drupal a bit cumbersome and would be grateful for any tips/advice that will help me be a better webmaster.
