DrupalCampLA is the annual FREE conference organized by LA Drupal to unite and improve the Drupal Development Community in Los Angeles and the Greater Southern California Area.

DrupalCampLA is an unconference-style Drupal training, founded in the style of BarCamp. While there are some differences (DrupalCamp does more pre-planning on the sessions), they have the common goal of bringing smart people together in an environment that is accessible to everyone.

This generally means that you will have a lot of very smart people in a _{small space} who have all come there with something to share and a desire to learn. Since this is a free+cheap event and on a weekend, we also get to welcome folks who can’t usually take the time or money to go to commercial conferences – so it’s a lot of fun with fresh faces.

Since this is a free event and entirely volunteer run (and no, this is not our day job), we also expect active participation from everyone when it comes to running the conference. This is as simple as picking up after yourself or actively fixing something if you see it’s broken, but please feel welcome to take an active role in making this a great event. We set the stage, but all of you make this happen!

Sessions and Topics

Current plans are to have three or four tracks with extra rooms on the side for community gatherings (BoFs). Large rooms each hold over 100 people, while small rooms hold more than 25 attendees with laptops.

In true BarCamp form, our sessions are proposed by community volunteers. The official schedule will be based on the sessions chosen by members attending the camp! In other words, YOUR camp will be two days of kick-ass sessions chosen by YOU. Pick ONLY the sessions you plan to attend when compiling your own ultimate schedule. If you can only attend one day, pick eight instead of fifteen. We’ll keep an active tally. The sessions with the most votes will make the cut. See something you like? Add it to your schedule! What if a session doesn’t make it? Don’t worry… we’ll have lots of room for BoF’s too!

After we have a final schedule – sometime in the week before camp – we’ll need you to update your personal schedule from the sessions that made the cut.

Updating your schedule is super important for two reasons:

So we can schedule the presentations in the “right-size” room.
Secondly, and possibly cooler, we are going to be giving you a live iCal view – that means you won’t miss anything – you can walk around the camp and always have YOUR schedule up-to-date on your mobile phone or laptop.

Really, that means any changes during camp will be instantly available. Is Drupal cool, or what?

Drupal Install-fest

Do you need help installing Drupal on your laptop? Or want someone to review your setup? Come early on Saturday and we’ll help you get Drupal installed and ready in time to get the most out of DrupalCamp. Depending on demand, we’ll do this again on Sunday, too.

Are you an expert in setting up Drupal? Come help us early. We need volunteers that know at least one OS platform very well.

What to Bring

Your computer (and power adaptor)
A surge protector or extension cord (labeled with your name)
A notebook
Business cards
A water bottle and snacks if you want to avoid the vending machines
Cash for parking and eats if you don’t bring snacks
Sunblock and a hat
An unhealthy love for all things Drupal

Podcasting gear
Your cell phone, set to vibrate please

What NOT to Bring

Alcohol or illegal substances of any sort
Firearms, fireworks, etc
Pets
Small children (or anyone who doesn’t intend on participating in the conference)

CODE OF CONDUCT

To ensure that DrupalCamp is a safe, enjoyable event for all comers, we have devised the following baseline code of conduct.

The following will not be tolerated and will result in immediate dismissal from DrupalCamp. Please review these rules carefully, there will be a zero tolerance policy in place at the event:

Excessive Alcohol Usage, or ANY alcohol usage outside of the venue. This is disrespectful and the possible legal ramifications could jeopardize the event for everyone.
Use of illegal drugs in or anywhere near the venue. As in #1, not only is this disrespectful to other DrupalCampers, it could also lead to the event being shut down. This is unacceptable.
While healthy, participatory discourse is encouraged, we will not tolerate abusive, badgering, or baiting arguments, whether during a session or otherwise. Likewise, disrupting the presentation of any individual, either through excessive interruptions, loud talking through a session in close proximity to a session, or attempting to take the stage (or similar presentation area) during another individual’s presentation will be grounds for immediate dismissal.
Aggressive behavior towards other DrupalCampers, whether physical or verbal, will not be tolerated. This covers, but is not limited to:

Threats of violence
Excessive personal insults
Sexually aggressive behavior
“Stalking behavior” of any sort
Harassment of any person present at DrupalCamp or surrounding conventions

We want to make DrupalCamp a safe and comfortable environment for everyone involved, which is why we believe these very basic ground rules are necessary and non-negotiable.
