Packages and other modules that are "must haves".
I was not planning on discussing the packages that are available, but focusing on the few modules that I have chosen as “must haves.” I have not tried out any of the packaged versions. I would like to though.
There is a long list of other modules that are “must haves” including CCK, Views and Google Analytics. I chose the few that are great starters that I could delve into in the hour that I have to talk. CCK, Views and Google Analytics are so elegant and complex that each of them could fill an entire session on their own.
I do not plan to discuss themes, but I am happy to answer any questions about anything if there is time.
As far as “best practices” go, I am probably not the expert there. I tend to Gump my way along testing and hoping that nothing breaks! (lol) I am very much still in the process of learning the “Drupal” way.
The modules that I have chosen are the ones that I use on every single site I build without exception. I am familiar with them and am confident in my abilities to present their functionality to the community.
Some questions
I wanted to know if you will also be talking about the packaged versions of Drupal the companies such as Acquia, Four Kitchens, Development Seed (etc) have come out with. Acquia has been offering their own packaged version of Drupal which comes with one of the above (Administration Menu) but it also comes with a lot of other must-haves (CCK, Views, Google Analytics … the whole list is at http://acquia.com/products-services/acquia-drupal-modules) and with a more extensible theme (Acquia Marina – not the ‘zen’ way to start a theme but it is VERY flexible). Similarly, Four Kitchens has a package of Drupal designed for speed and Development Seed has a version designed for an intranet. Very different approaches from 3 studios and these are only some of the more prolific packages packages out there!
Will you also be talking about things like the above or will you also be going into ‘best-practices’ on choosing modules (and packages) to use on a site a person may design?
